We are the conveyor design experts
Power roller and other conveyor systems produced by Ultimation have reliably conveyed tens of millions of tires, seats, frames and other industrial products. We have an extensive portfolio of designs for belt, slat, pedestal, power roller, overhead, power and free, and chain on edge conveyors. Our team have hundreds of years of conveyor design experience, so let us help lead you through the conveyor design and selection process!
How to choose the right type of conveyor
Our engineering team has deep expertise in designing, building and installing conveyor equipment in plants across the world. The process starts with ensuring the type of conveyor equipment is appropriate for the product, the operating conditions and the production volumes. One of the things we are happy to do at the early stage of a project is to provide some free consulting advice to you on the different types of conveyors and automation equipment. At the early stages, we use phone and Webex (video conferencing) to learn more about your products and your needs, and at the same time show you some different types of equipment and talk about the pros and cons of each type. Since many of our designs are already available in 3D CAD formats, we’re often also able to do a quick mock-up of what an assembly system would look like. Then we would probably do an on-site meeting and try to focus this down to 1-2 possible conveyor types that would work.

The first conveyor design choice: Floor conveyors or overhead conveyors?
Floor conveyors are, as you probably guessed, mounted on the floor. They are more commonly known by the specific conveyor technology that is used. The most common types are:
- Gravity roller conveyors
- Powered roller conveyor
- Belt conveyors
- Skid conveyors
- Chain conveyors
- Slat conveyor
Power roller conveyors
Moving products using advanced power roller conveyor systems is one of our core conveyor design capabilities. These types of conveyors are used for seats, tires, wheels, material handling and any applications where products need to be accumulated and fed through longer distances.
Belt conveyors can be used for lower volume applications, and are also ideal for elevation changes and in situations where accumulation is not required. Belt conveyors should not be used in situations where products may damage each other. Conveyor design must take into account the wear characteristics of the material being conveyed. Will the belt be exposed to sharp edges on the product? Would a mesh type belt allow product cooling if the product is hot? There are many variables and factors to be considered.
We’ve designed and installed many different slat conveyors which are generally used for frame handling applications.
Pedestal conveyors allow for the product assembly to be oriented correctly for the operator to allow excellent access and high efficiency via a fixture.
