ROSEVILLE, Mich. (December 31, 2020) – Vanessa Costa of Fall River, MA is the winner of Ultimation’s 2020 STEM Scholarship. She recently received a $1,500 stipend from Ultimation towards her STEM studies in 2021. Vanessa is a student at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth working towards a Biology Major. Ultimation offers an annual scholarship to encourage students to study STEM programs at colleges across the US.
“Vanessa’s submission was one of a huge number that we received” says Jackie Canny, Ultimation’s CEO. “The scholarship is a merit-based award, and we asked each applicant to propose ideas that demonstrate innovative ideas for the use of motorized roller conveyors with 24V DC motors. Vanessa proposed an energy efficient system utilizing gravity conveyor rollers and motorized rollers.
At the end of the downhill sections she proposed MDR braking systems that would recapture the energy and provide the power to adjacent motorized rollers. Our judging panel was impressed by her understanding of these innovative material handling concepts.”
Ultimation will be announcing the theme and details of the 2021 STEM Scholarship soon.
ROSEVILLE, Mich. (November 7, 2020) – Making conveyor belts go around corners has never been easy. These applications are demanding and can be challenging to implement. Ultimation is launching a new range of curved belt conveyors from Interroll. This innovative family of curved belt conveyors are found in 8 out of 10 airports worldwide.
“Next time your bag arrives at the baggage claim at the airport, think about all the twists and turns your bag takes to get to that point” says Kali Cresent, E-Commerce marketing specialist at Ultimation. “Straight belt conveyors are relatively common and in wide use. But curved conveyor belts require very special engineering and design. We utilize Interroll curved conveyor belts for that purpose since they have fantastic reliability, performance and simplicity.”
Ultimation integrates these belt conveyor curves into systems with MDR straight conveyors, straight belt conveyors and gravity conveyors.

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (September 16, 2020) – Ultimation is launching a new range of specialty automated delivery systems. The products target the automotive and e-commerce industries. The new range builds on the success of automated tire and wheel delivery systems. They will deliver oversize and performance style tires. Initially the first application is a fleet of tire and wheel delivery trucks for the new Ram TRX performance off-road trucks. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) will launch the TRX later this year.
“The new Ram TRX tire and wheel assemblies are enormous” said John Daugherty, Engineering and Projects VP at Ultimation. “And because they don’t fit inside existing delivery systems, it required a new look at how to handle these type of off-road style tires. We’re seeing many of these larger mud-style tires used in light truck applications. For performance vehicles, we need to ensure that the delivery method doesn’t include stacking assemblies. They are expensive and easy to damage. Ultimation’s new automated delivery trucks protect the wheel surfaces at all times.”
Ultimation’s automated system utilizes a continuous loop of conveyors inside the trucks. Motor driven roller (MDR) conveyors move the tires during loading and unloading. Trucks are loaded with tires at the logistics sub assembly site location. When Ultimation’s truck system is backed into a delivery dock, the conveyor inside the truck connects with a shipping conveyor. At the supplier plants the tires enter into the truck at the upper right hand side. Loading continues with the required number of tire and wheel assemblies for each delivery. At the FCA plant, the trucks back into the dock and the unloading process begins. Most importantly, the entire process is automated.
“Avoiding forklift movements for loading and unloading wheel and tire assemblies has major value for the auto companies and suppliers alike” said Daugherty. The productivity savings are significant. Also, each forklift movement in a busy assembly environment carries safety risks. Ultimation believes that many more commodities in the e-commerce segment will soon use these automated processes.”
Automated Delivery System Options
Ultimation’s automated delivery systems can be fitted to vehicles as small as the Navistar MV series stake trucks. At the upper end of the range, they are as large as 53′ long tractor trailers. Each application includes 3 – 8 vehicles or trailers that can service the just-in-time deliveries. Some of the larger systems include 800 feet of motorized conveyor per trailer. These systems have over 500 individual motorized conveyor rollers. MDR suppliers for the motors are Japanese supplier Itoh Denki and Swiss supplier Interroll.

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (Aug. 12, 2020) – Inc. magazine today ranked Ultimation Industries, LLC on its annual Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States. Ultimation is a woman-owned leader in the conveyor technology and automation industry and has been designing, manufacturing and installing machinery and equipment, automation devices, tire and wheel processing lines and conveyor systems since 1989.
We are honored that our customer-centric approach to business and the resulting growth of our company is being recognized in the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies,” said Jacqueline Canny, CEO of Ultimation.
Intuit, Zappos, Under Armour, Microsoft, Patagonia, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees on the Inc. 5000.
Ultimation’s primary business segment historically has been large, turnkey conveyor systems. However, according to Canny, many of Ultimation’s newer customers are companies that are growing fast through e-commerce channels themselves. “They need smart and lean supply chains, which is driving continued investment in conveyors and automation,” she said. To support that transition, Ultimation expanded into smaller, ‘quick ship’ products and systems that are sold through their website and in Amazon’s stores.
“Every contact inquiry we get is an opportunity to learn how to be more customer centric,” she said. “We answer every phone call with a live sales associate. We get back to every enquiry within 24 hours. We work hard to make as much information available on our website as we can to educate and inform customers and ultimately, grow the business.”
The 2020 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2016 and 2019. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2016. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2019.
“From health and software to media and hospitality, the 2020 list proves that no matter the sector, incredible growth is based on the foundations of tenacity and opportunism,” says Inc. editor-in-chief Scott Omelianuk.
In addition to the Inc. 5000 recognition, Ultimation was a finalist for Amazon’s Woman-Owned Small Business Spotlight Awards in 2019, which celebrates entrepreneurs and small businesses across the country selling in Amazon’s stores. The company was also listed as one of Metro Detroit’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For® in 2019 by the Michigan Business and Professional Association.
