Chain driven live roller conveyor by Ultimation was recently installed at GM’s Wentzville Assembly Center near St. Louis, Missouri. The urgently needed upgrade will enable higher production of the very successful Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pick up trucks. Ultimation received the purchase order in early October 2015 and delivered and commissioned the system during the year end 2015 shutdown.
“We’re happy that we were able to meet GM’s tight timelines for this project and achieve a smooth launch.” said CEO Jacqueline Canny. “By engineering the overhead structure in modules, complete with the Chain driven live roller conveyor pre-mounted to them, we saved precious time during the design phase and this also enabled very fast installation processes in the plant.”
“The total timeline from order to delivery was 10 weeks. Normally for a system of this size we would be looking at 14-18 weeks.” said Canny. “Ultimation was also responsible for total project management to make sure that all required mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems fully met GM’s requirement and all materials were on-site before the Christmas shutdown began”.
Chain driven live roller conveyor systems by Ultimation are typically used to conveyor tire and wheel assemblies, seats and pallets. They are exceptionally heavy-duty and require little maintenance. Ultimation builds turn-key systems that fully integrate all mechanical and electrical systems as required. The new installation at the GM Wentzville plant runs 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and delivers more than one million tires per year to the final assembly line installation point.
