X-678 chain components are drop forged from high-strength steel, precision forged and finished. Webb rivetless conveyor chain provides the smoothest chain pin bearing surface in the industry, minimizing the initial break-in period. All chain parts are hardened to increase resistance to wear, corrosion, abrasive action and shock loads.
Conveyor chain for overhead conveyor systems are used for all types of applications, from automotive assembly to all types of manufacturing. Chain conveyors got their start in the automotive industry in 1919, revolutionizing the way automobiles were manufactured.
Temperature ratings for rivetless chain systems are dependent on the part that has the lowest rating for the system, which is typically the wheels on the trolleys. If using a full complement wheel on your trolleys, then it will be 450 degrees Fahrenheit. If the trolley has retainer type wheels, then it will be 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
What does X-678 mean when talking about X-678 conveyor chains?
Rivetless conveyor chains come in various different sizes, with the most typical being X-348, X-458 and X-678. The fist number in the designation refers to the chain pitch, being 6″ for the X-678 chain. The second and third digits refers to the size of the pin. So an X-678 chain has a 6″ pitch, and pin size of 7/8″ and is therefore referred to as X-678 conveyor chain.

Most recently the chain conveyor has seen major improvements to its longevity, with LubriPin™. What’s different about LubriPin? It’s the notches on the top and bottom of the pin that enable the oil to flow quickly down the pin to accurately reach critical lubrication points. See how LubriPin improves the flow of oil compared to traditional conveyor pins.
The LubriPin significantly increases the longevity of conveyor chain. LubriPin also reduces chain stretch and noise generated by the conveyor system. While conveyor chain is our oldest product, we are still looking at ways to improve it for our customers. LubriPin is one of the most significant advancements to conveyor chains in the few decades!
As long as it is X-678 conveyor chain, aren’t all conveyor chains the same?
Although at first glance, conveyor chains might look similar, there are vast differences between Jervis Webb Microloy conveyor chains and other brands. Original Webb conveyor chain has a 20% greater strength to weight ratio than other carbon chains. Our chains are precision forged to ensure maximum contact between wear surfaces. Each and every chain section is assembled and tested before it leaves the plant. Lower quality conveyor chains will wear faster, resulting in possible breakage or reduced life.
