These Type 4 safety light curtains, also known as light screens, are used throughout industrial and manufacturing settings to protect individuals from injury. Light screens are also used to safeguard machines from damage; this is commonly referred to as “machine guarding”. Safety light screens use photoelectric sensors that create a “barrier” between the receiver and the sender. When the sensors are interrupted, the light curtain sends a signal to stop the connected machine. Unlike a standard photoelectric sensor, a light screens can monitor itself through redundant signals, ensuring that it will stop the machine if it encounters an internal fault.
Light curtains tend to have a longer service life when compared to door switches or other opening/closing devices due to the non-contact nature of the light screen design. Type 4 light screens are growing in popularity due to the narrower aperture angle and shorter response time when compared to their Type 2 counterparts. The installation of light curtains is a quick and easy process thanks to the variety of mounting brackets and the curtain’s compact design. These light curtains have a 14mm beam resolution which allows the curtain to detect smaller intrusions much faster than the 30mm beam resolution counterparts. This makes the UISG4-14-075-OO-E light screens ideal for machine guarding applications where smaller appendages may be at risk, such as fingers.
