These Type 4 safety light curtains, also known as light screens, are often installed within manufacturing settings to protect operators and technicians from injury. On top of protecting operators, safety light screens are also used to safeguard machines from critical errors and damage; commonly referred to as “machine guarding”. These devices use photoelectric sensors that create a “barrier” between the sender and the receiver. When this barrier breaks and the sensors are interrupted, the light screen sends a signal to stop the connected machine. Unlike a standard photoelectric sensor, a light curtain will monitor itself through redundant signals, ensuring that they will stop the machine in the situation of an internal fault.
Light curtain installations are quick and painless thanks to their compact design and the variety of mounting brackets. Due to the non-contact nature of their design, light screens tend to have a longer service life than their mechanical counterparts such as door switches or other opening/closing devices. Type 4 light curtains provide a much narrower aperture angle, as well as a shorter response time, when compared to Type 2 light curtains. The UISG4-14-030-OO-E light screens offer 14mm beam resolution which can detect smaller intrusions more quickly than their 30mm resolution counterparts, this makes the 14mm resolution light screens ideal for finger detection.
