Problem Solvers: “What are some easy upgrades we can make to improve the efficiency of our legacy conveyors?”

Customers often ask Ultimation’s Customer Service team for suggestions on how to make their legacy conveyor systems more efficient.

“With more than 400 items in our Online Store, we have a variety of quick-ship solutions to replace or re-energize legacy conveyor systems,” said Alec Fitzgerald, Digital Marketing Specialist for Ultimation.

Some of the options include:

  • Retrofit kits. Existing gravity roller conveyor systems can be converted to motorized systems with Ultimation’s retrofit kits. The kits enable customers to retain their existing roller conveyor frames and leg supports, while adding new motorized rollers, motor controllers and power supplies. The implementation is quick and total cost is much less than purchasing new equipment.

MDR Retrofit 24" Wide x 5' Long

  • Rollers and roller covers. Noisy, worn-out or vibrating gravity conveyors can often be refreshed by replacing the rollers or by adding roller covers. Galvanized steel 10-inch long, 1.5” wide spring-loaded replacement rollers start at less than $5 each. A variety of sizes are available. Roller covers in soft urethane, vinyl or hard plastic can reduce noise levels, cushion products, provide traction, reduce scratches and move products down the line. Roller cover material comes in five-foot sections that can be cut to length and be easily installed by the customer as well as pre-cut lengths.

Urethane Covers for Rollers

  • Conveyor belt replacement. Portec belt conveyors are used in some of the world’s busiest airports and are known for their durability. But eventually, the belts can become worn. By removing one small piece of the mechanical lacing, the entire belt can be replaced within minutes to give the conveyor new life.

How We Helped: Ultimation Keeps Projects Rolling Along

At work and at home, Ultimation keeps projects rolling for our customers. Rollers can be part of a gravity conveyor or used as a stand-alone with brackets for a variety of purposes. Check out this latest edition of our “How We Helped” customer stories featuring Ultimation rollers.

Beam it up

Roller and Bracket Sets for Moving 700-pound Wooden Beam

Getting a 700-lb. beam through a small opening in a house is a challenging project. But one enterprising customer used a series of Ultimation heavy-duty rollers to get the job done.

“I bought 4 because the beam is almost 30 feet long,” the customer writes. “The rollers come out of the brackets with a spring loaded axle on one side, so you can easily mount the bracket then insert the roller. I pushed (the beam) in with my tractor.”

Ultimation’s heavy-duty rollers are made of 14-gauge steel and make it easy to transport heavy objects without causing damage.

Another customer who also purchased these rollers remarked: “I had to return another brand that would not stay in the roller bracket, but this pair of rollers seemed like more substantially built. I use these for a raft trailer.”

Take the “crawl” out of crawl space

A customer looking for a crawl space storage solution reached out to Ultimation for answers. It turns out our Light-Duty Gravity Conveyor with 1.5” galvanized steel rollers was the perfect fit for this project. The customer writes:

“If ordering more than one section of the gravity rollers, you may need to add the connecting hardware (not expensive).” Others who ordered the same product say: “Awesome product. Built well.” and “Super easy installation, built well, highly recommend.”

With an overall width of 18″ (measured from outside of frame to outside of frame) and 16″ between frames, Ultimation’s gravity conveyor can accommodate a wide range of projects—including yours!

Lightening the load

How We Helped - Roller and Bracket Sets for Canoes

Canoeing is fun. Hauling the canoe? Not so much…unless you’re this enterprising customer, who used our Polyurethane Coated Rollers with Brackets to make the task so much easier.

“I painted the rollers black and mounted them to my truck rack for easy loading and unloading our canoe. They are working great,” writes the customer. Another says: “Very well made. Easy to install for whatever project you use it on.”

The 1.9-inch spring-retained galvanized rollers are covered with an orange polyurethane cover to protect precious cargo. The covers are temperature-rated for operation within -80°F to 200°F (-62°C to 93°C) and the rollers have a maximum 250-pound load capacity per roller.

Ultimation Industries Introduces New Line of Chain-Driven Live Roller Conveyors for Heavy-duty Applications

Online ordering capability and shorter lead times provide manufacturers, distributors and others with more flexibility

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (Oct. 26, 2023) – Ultimation, an MCE company, is adding a line of heavy-duty chain-driven live roller (CDLR) conveyors to its growing Online Store portfolio. Ultimation is the leading direct-to-consumer conveyor manufacturer, specializing in solving productivity challenges with fast-to-deploy solutions for a broad range of end-markets, including energy, automotive, logistics and vertical farming.

“Heavy-duty material handling solutions such as CDLRs typically require specialized engineering expertise to configure and long lead times for delivery,” said Kali Wahrman, general manager for Ultimation. “Our new quick-ship CDLR offering makes nearly a dozen of the most popular and versatile configurations accessible through on-line ordering with faster delivery times.”

Chain driven live roller conveyor systems are rugged, durable conveyors that are suited to many items that wouldn’t typically be conveyed on a roller conveyor such as pallets, racks, or industrial containers. The sprocketed rollers and roll-to-roll chain system provide power to drive the product forward. Multiple lengths and configurations make the CDLR a versatile conveyor that can be used in a variety of industrial and commercial environments, including warehouses, automotive plants and distribution centers. The chain design is also suitable for oily conditions or for moving product through high temperature zones, such as ovens, which can’t be serviced by other types of conveyors.

CDLR Conveyor 5'L with 6" Centers and Jackbolt Supports

Ultimation’s new line of quick-ship CDLR conveyors include standardized straight sections. The powder-coated structural steel channel frames come in a 44-inch effective width and five-foot overall length with a 6,000-pound maximum drive capacity and 980-pound maximum capacity per foot. Ultimation’s CDLRs include jack bolt adjustable conveyor supports that measure 30” high and a ½ horsepower totally enclosed, fan cooled (TEFC) electric motor.

Wahrman said CDLRs available through Ultimation’s on-line store have reduced delivery lead times of as much as 50 percent, with delivery in 4-5 weeks versus eight or more.

Problem Solvers: “How do we add temporary seasonal material handling capacity fast?”

With the holiday season and Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days right around the corner, Ultimation customers are looking for ways to quickly add material handling capacity, without breaking the budget.

The answer? Flexible and expandable conveyors.

“Today’s modern warehouses need to be versatile and adaptable,” said Alec Fitzgerald, Digital Marketing Specialist for Ultimation. “Flexible conveyors are a cost-effective solution for 3PLs, assembly, packaging, shipping, or receiving that experience a high seasonal volume.”

Here’s how flexible and expandable conveyors work:

  • Fully expanded, flexible conveyors can provide up to 15 feet of conveyor capacity.
  • When not in use, the compressed width of 18″ and length of 3 feet is small enough to store under pallet racks or just about anywhere.
  • The conveyor legs can be adjusted for heights from 28 – 40 inches, creating the incline needed to move products efficiently.
  • Set-up takes only a few minutes. The conveyor’s large legs and smooth rolling casters make it easy for one person to move without having to use a lift truck.
  • Curve the conveyors to create the exact path needed. This is beneficial for long distances that may have obstacles along the way or a very specific route to move your product.
  • Flexible roller conveyors are great for odd-shaped items like bags or low grade cartons.

Prices start at $665 for the 2- to 8-foot length. Visit the Online Store for full specifications, including weight capacity and pricing.

“Flexible conveyors are a much less expensive investment that can be set up quickly during high volume months,” said Alec. “These compact and portable conveyors could be a better solution for your company, rather than a permanent conveying system that would take up space you need.”

Ultimation Industries Expands Line of Quick-Ship Material Handling Product Offerings

Nearly 100 new products give small- and medium-sized manufacturers, distributors and others more customization options

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (Sept. 19th, 2023) – Ultimation Industries’ quick-ship product line is expanding, with more than 100 new items added in the last year alone. Ultimation, an MCE company, is the leading direct-to-consumer conveyor manufacturer, specializing in solving productivity challenges with fast-to-deploy solutions for a broad range of end-markets, including energy, automotive, logistics and vertical farming.

“Our customers’ businesses are evolving with the rapid growth of e-commerce and shifts in consumer demand,” said Kali Cresent, general manager for Ultimation. “We expanded our line of conveyors and accessories to help them meet these challenges and give them the flexibility and productivity enhancements they need to grow.”

Ultimation’s online stores now carry nearly 400 SKUs, ranging from light-, medium- and heavy-duty gravity conveyors to motor-driven roller conveyors, beam trolleys, expandable conveyors, replacement parts and more. Among the new offerings for quick-ship orders are:

  • More lengths and widths of gravity conveyors. With an expanded offering of lengths and widths, customers can get near-custom sizes at off-the-shelf pricing when purchasing gravity conveyors. Choose from 3-, 5-, or 10-foot sections for most roller conveyors. Longer spans such as 10-foot sections are also available and may need a center support.
  • Curved motor-driven roller (MDR) conveyor segments. Curved conveyor sections have always been available for Ultimation’s custom-built material handling projects, but the introduction of curved MDR conveyors in the quick-ship line affordably brings this technology to small- and medium-sized businesses. Curved sections allow manufacturers and distributors to create a full-loop system or configure conveyors around warehouse obstacles or other equipment.
  • Flexible and expandable conveyors with longer lengths. Flexible conveyors can expand when needed, and contract for storage. These conveyors are a simple solution for moving products more efficiently and set-up only takes a few minutes. Ultimation now offers expandable conveyors that reach up to 15 feet in length when fully extended.
  • New poly coated roller options. Conveyor roller covers have many applications, from light manufacturing to heavy duty conveyor systems, and come in a variety of materials and textures such as soft urethane, vinyl and hard plastic. They are used for reducing noise levels, cushioning products, providing traction, reducing scratches and marks, and moving products down the line when the rollers have come to a stop. Roller cover material can be purchased in 5-foot sections so customers can cut them to the desired length prior to installation. Roller covers can also be pre-cut to the required length for various conveyor roller sizes, and many of Ultimation’s gravity conveyors can be purchased with pre-installed roller covers.

The new products are the result of Ultimation’s focus on staying close to their customers and providing solutions to their material handling needs.

“We answer every phone call with a live sales associate and get back to every enquiry within 24 hours,” said Cresent. “Every contact is an opportunity to learn how to be more customer centric.”
